Dressing Up Your Modern Staircase

anigifWe focus most of our decorating energies to our living areas.  Kitchens, bedrooms, dens and living rooms are where we spend the majority of our time when we’re at home.  There are ways, though, that allow you to link one room to the next for a uniform and consistent beauty throughout your house.  One of those ways is adding a bit of flair and personality to your staircase.  We have a few tips that will make your staircase a beautiful extension of the rest of your home.  It’s all about adding a bit of depth and color.

Have a landing area in your staircase?  Depending on how much space you have, a lovely accent table or even a small bench can work wonders.  If you opt for an accent table, be sure to place a pitcher or even one of our new Root Wood Vases.  These lovely accent pieces are true conversation starters and allow you to bring another element of nature indoors.

Before you select a bench, or for that matter, an accent table, be sure to measure the landing area so that you’re not creating a safety hazard.  Don’t sacrifice the safety of your home; there are many contemporary accents that you can choose from that won’t jeopardize your family’s well-being.

Another great decorating idea is a taller vase, planter or umbrella stand in the corner of the landing.  This is a great choice for those smaller platforms.  If your stairwell has no landing, take advantage of the wall space.  Choose a collection of prints that will lead guests and family members up the stairs.  This is one of those areas in the home that you can really allow your creative flair to shine through.  It doesn’t necessarily have to follow your design elements in another room, as long as it looks wonderful in your eyes, it’s fair game.

Ever considered adding a mirror?  For years, we’ve relied on accent mirrors to make our rooms appear larger and a 36633stairwell certainly qualifies.  With so many choices in contemporary mirrors, many like to select several of varying shapes and frames to create their own eclectic look.  Speaking of creating your own look, framed photographs of your family work well in a staircase as does those paintings your five year old made during kindergarten.  Frame them and build her self esteem in the process.

These are just a few decorating ideas for the modern staircase.  Check out our extensive offerings of accent pieces for use throughout your home.
