Area Rug Glossary

Abrash – The natural color variations found in high quality handwoven rugs.

All Over Design – The theme or pattern consistent throughout an area rug.

Arabesque – Area or room rugs with a floral or vine pattern

Backing – The fabric that makes up the backside of a rug

Binding – The band that’s sewn over a carpet’s edge that provides additional strength and durability

Blend – Area rugs that consist of or are made of more than one kind of fiber
