Table lamps
Table lamps are the classic standard of lighting. They don’t require tricky installation, they’re relatively inexpensive, and you can customize them to match the look of your home.
Basic table lamps have a base made of metal, wood, glass, or ceramic. On top, they have a fabric or jacquard shades. But in today’s ever-expanding world of lighting options, you can find bases and shades made of just about anything. There are two basic categories of table lamps: traditional and contemporary. Traditional refers to the classic base-and-shade setup. Contemporary lighting – often hand-in-hand with art shades – brings a more modern look to your room. This sort of lamp may utilize newer materials for the base, like painted or crackled glass or terra cotta. It may also have an unusual shade, one made of a non-standard material or in a more noticeable color than white or black.
Another style of table lamp is a Tiffany lamp. Historically, Tiffany lamps were created around 1895, toward the end of the Art Nouveau movement . The first lamp of this kind was created by Clara Driscoll, who at the time was the director of the Tiffany Studios’ Women’s Glass Cutting Department in New York City. The bases are usually an austere metal, while the shades are elegant geometric patterns of colored glass that often resemble shapes found in nature (flowers, leaves, etc). Tiffany lamps can also function as desk lamps.
Yet another unusual kind of table lamp available from Home Lighting Mart are Art Deco lamps. The Art Deco movement was an international design phenomenon in the 1920′s. Pieces created during that time period were known for being glamorous and elegant while simultaneously modern and functional. Buildings like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, both in New York City, were designed in an art deco style. Art deco lamps are a great alternative to more traditional table lamps. They provide light, but also a lovely conversation piece for your home.
When you’re choosing a table lamp, remember that the cord will need to be long enough to reach the nearest outlet. The shades need to be dusted regularly, and the bases should be wiped down with a damp cloth. If you take care of your lamp, it should be there for you to enjoy for years to come.
