Tableware and Dinnerware Glossary

Tableware – Defined as eating, drinking and serving utensils used when setting a table for dining.

Flatware - Forks, knives and spoons

Hollowware – Hollow dishes such as bowls, cups and serving dishes

Accent Plate – Larger than a salad plate, smaller than a dinner plate and generally 9″ in diameter.  Ideal for sandwiches or hor d’oeuvres.

Backstamp – The name or signature of a manufacturer that appears on the underside of dinnerware.

Centerpiece – This is what’s placed in the center of a table and provides an elegant or whimsical feel to your dining area.

Beading – Decorative trim with raised dots within the design of dinnerware and tableware.
