Sofa Buying Guide

modern sofaLiving room sofas are often the center of a den or living room.  They’re where we rest after a long day, where we do homework and watch television.  Many of us decorate around the colors, patterns and feel of our sofa.  While many of us are drawn to a modern and elegant sofa, there are those of us who prefer futon sofas or other trendy, contemporary sofa designs.  Luckily, there are enough styles and designs to satisfy all our tastes.

Your first task will be to measure your room.  As a rule, sofa ranges are from six feet up to eight or nine feet in length.  If you’re sure your new sofa will look best on a certain wall, ensure your measurements are accurate before you begin your treasure hunt.  This applies to the width of the sofa as well.  One that protrudes too far out and doesn’t allow easy traffic flow can become burdensome.  Also, carefully consider the covering that will best suit your needs.  If you have pets that are always welcome on your furniture or if you have young children, you might wish to consider microfiber or leather, as both are durable and easy to clean.

If you like the versatility offered by a futon, usually metal frames are a better choice; again, due to the durability of metal.  It will provide solidity against openings and closings.  One big advantage of futons is the ability to change the cushioning at will.  Getting new carpet?  It’s a breeze to have your current cushions recovered or you may choose to purchase new cushioning.

You might think you’re more drawn to a traditional sofa, but one look at a new design on a contemporary couch might have you rethinking your preferences.  There are beautiful sofas in every category and by allowing yourself the freedom to browse all of them ensures you keep an open mind as you set about ordering your new living room or den furnishings.
