Before you begin your search, it’s always a good idea to review the current mailbox regulations set forth by the United States Postal Service:

If you’re using curb-side mailboxes, remember to place them on the right hand side of the road in the direction the carrier travels.

Ensure your carrier can safely get your mail to your box without having to leave his vehicle (applicable to curbside boxes).

Ensure your house number or other identifying information is clearly seen with at least 1″ letters and numbers.

These are just a few of the regulations and more can be found on the Postal Service’s website.

In the meantime, here are some buying tips that will have the neighbors admiring your great taste in receptacles.

Contemporary mailboxes include those constructed of satin brass or bronze.  They’re usually adorned with beveling or other decorative touches.  Hammered copper looks great too and gives an older world charm to a home.
