Home Decor Glossary

Alabaster – Hard substance used in construction of many home décor pieces including vases and statues.  It’s widely used and is inexpensive and can be painted and/or carved.

Chintz - Lightweight fabric that’s colored and used in draperies and other upholstered furniture.

Damask – Cotton, linen or silk fabrics used in upholstery.  Can sometimes be reversed.

Majolica – Very dense earthenware from Italy.  Has similar compounds as terracotta and is used as indoor and outdoor décor material.

Theme – The foundation from which one builds his home décor style around.

Wainscot – Paneling the lower section of one’s walls.  Durable and can be painted or stained.
