Glossary of Common Safe Terms

Bolt Work – The bolting mechanisms of a safe that ensure intrusion doesn’t occur.

Borescope - The very intricate tool used by locksmiths to crack a safe’s mechanisms.  It’s a long narrow rod with a light at the end to ease access into a safe.

Dial Lock – Locks that require specific combination by employing a hand turned wheel and require no electricity to open.

Rating System – Used in the safe industry to determine the strength of a safe.

Re-Locker – Mechanical device that will permanently prevent a safe’s bolt work to open when it’s illegally tampered with.
