Fitness Equipment Glossary and Commonly Used Terms

IFBB – The International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness was founded in 1945 and is the largest bodybuilding federation in the world.

Incline Bench – Bench that’s adjustable in its degrees of inclination.  Used for upper chest workouts.

Inversion Tables – These allow you to hang upside down and are used to alleviate back and neck pain as well as stress and tension.  Many believe they rejuvenate muscles and serve for better circulation.

Gravity Boots – Used with inversion tables, these allow the user to safely hang upside down.

Circuit Training – Perfectly sequenced exercises that ensure you’re only working out each body part only once and with little or no rests in between.

Cool Down – The block of time after a workout that’s important to remove lactic acid from the muscles.
