Outdoor Lighting Glossary

Diffuser – Translucent glass or plastic that shields the light in a fixture and allows it to transmit in soft colors or other decorative ways.

Accent Lighting – Fixtures used to highlight a certain area such as a flower bed.

ANSI – American National Standard Institute is an organization of safety professionals that tests light fixtures and other electrical devices to ensure safety.

Task Lighting – Lighting that can be directed to a specific area for better viewing.

Kilowatt – Unit of electrical power and the same as 1000 watts.
