Bedroom Dresser Buying Guide

Bedroom dressers were originally used strictly for utilitarian reasons.  They were meant to complement a closet’s function by holding those clothing items that couldn’t be hung from hangers.  Today’s dressers are far more useful since we store important documents, photos and a number of other things that we want easy access to, but wish to keep out of sight.  It’s not uncommon for a bedroom dresser to store t-shirts, socks, etc. in the first drawers with a bottom drawer used for other storage purposes. 

The style choices made available today offer split drawers and even cabinets.  They usually offer between five and eight drawers and come in countless finishes.  We are no longer limited to the bedroom dressers that were made part of an entire bedroom furniture set.  Dressers can now be bought as separate furniture pieces, making it even easier to coordinate the look we want to accomplish while ensuring it serves its purpose in the process.

Hardware options such as the drawer pulls and hinges are easily changed should we wish to update the look of our dressers and adding a mirror is simply a matter of attaching it to the back of the dresser or centering it on the wall over the dresser.  Heights vary making it a breeze to find the perfect chest of drawers for any room in the house.

Naturally, you’ll want your dresser to coordinate with the furniture you already have in a room.  Be sure the space you have designated will easily accommodate the width of the dresser and for additional height, you might wish to find a dresser that’s footed.  These give a certain elegance to the dresser.

If you like the idea of displaying treasured pieces of framed photographs, a dresser top is the perfect place to do so.  It adds personality to both bedroom dressers and nightstands too.  Today’s wood finishes protect the dresser and keeping it dust-free is far more manageable with the right finish.
