Umbrella and Patio Glossary

Café Tables – Small bistro tables usually no more than 2 ½’ in diameter and are ideal for smaller round umbrellas with four feet or less in coverage.

Patio Umbrella Frame – The hardware the umbrella fabric is stretched over.  Materials include aluminum, wood or fiberglass.

Finial – The decorative piece found at the top of the pole and also serves as the center when the umbrella is open.

Crank – Many umbrellas come with a handle that allows users to ‘roll’ open or closed.

Freestanding Umbrella – Umbrella with base that sits to the side of the umbrella’s coverage area.  Used with picnic or patio tables with no center holes.
