Dining Chair Glossary

Distressed – A way to artificially alter wood or leather for a more aged look.

Microfiber – An easier to maintain fabric used in lieu of leather.  It’s often used in dining chairs due to its resistance to stains and cleaning ease.  It’s an inexpensive alternative to leather.

Apron – The space under the skirt of the table edge.  This is important when considering chair heights and how they fit under the tabletop.

Queen Anne Chair – Distinguishable by the crest rail near the top of the chair back as well as the splat located in the center of the chair back.

Ladder Back Chair – These chairs have slat backs and are traditionally found with French chic or country furniture sets.

Parsons Table – Usually square or rectangular in shape, these simple tables with straight legs are available in many sizes and work well in most dining rooms.
